Simplified AGWPE Installation Instructions

OVERVIEW:

AGWPE is a Packet Engine program to interface TNC's and Sound card to other software programs like Paclink and Telpac programs under Winlink 2000.

DOWNLOAD:

EXTRACT:

The AGWPE setup file comes  in "zip" format. So, first create a new folder on your C: drive, and then extract the zipped files into this folder.

INSTALL:

1.  Use Windows File Explorer to go to the C:/AGWPE folder. The main AGWPE program is named  AGW Packet Engine.exe.   You should probably create a shortcut Icon on your desktop for.  Simply Right Click, and select SEND TO >> DESKTOP.

2.  Now, go to your Desktop and Double Click the AGWPE  Icon. It should bring up the license agreement, and you should click Accept.

3.  The program does not open into full screen mode, but rather places a Tower Icon in the lower right Task Bar.

Left or Right Click the Tower Icon to bring up AGWPE's pop-up menu.  Select Properties, and on the next pop-up select New Port.

4.  You will then see the main TNC screen shown below:

A. Select your COM Port.

B. Select Speed (Baud Rate) for the PC to communicate to the TNC (suggest leave at 9600)

C. Select your TNC type.

D. The program should default the Kiss Mode and the IniKiss Commands.

Note that if you are using a KPC-3 the Defaults shown under the TNC Commands are not correct.  For a KPC-3 Delete the  IniKiss1, and change IniKiss2 to INTFACE KISS

The options under the Tnc Commands tab should normally be left at their defaults, so click the OK button.  You will then see a small pop-up telling you that AGWPE must be restarted.

To do so, go to the lower right Task Bar and click the Tower Icon.  Select EXIT.

Once the Tower Icon is gone, go back to the main Desktop screen and Double Click the AGWPE  Icon.  This time when the program opens you will see both a Tower Icon  and a Modem Icon -- and it will have blinking Red and Green LED's when sending and Receiving.

At this point the AGWPE Packet Engine should be working, and ready for use by the other programs.  Setup for a sound card is very similar, where "Sound Card" becomes the TNC Type.
